JEDDAH: Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami, speaker of the Arab Parliament, expressed his resolve to continue making efforts to support Arab causes particularly the Palestinian issue.
Following his election as the speaker of the Arab Parliament for a second term, he said the Palestinian issue is our top priority. He said a special committee was formed to devise a strategy to address a number of issues including the status of Jerusalem, Israeli barriers and repeated violence against the Palestinians.
Al-Salami said terrorism is also an issue facing the Arab world. He pledged to fight terrorism in all its forms and ensure the safety of the Arab world.
The Arab Parliament not only condemns terrorist acts but also seeks strategies, means and procedures to fight terrorism.
Al-Salami was elected as the speaker of the Arab Parliament at a special session on Saturday.
His election is a seen as recognition of Saudi Arabia’s role in serving Arab issues. He is also a member of the Saudi Shoura Council.
Al-Salami has been a member of the Arab Parliament since 2013, and a member of the Saudi Shoura Council since 2009. He started his academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies at King Abdul Aziz University in 1997.
